Spring 2019 Events for Rising 6th Grade CES Families
5th Grade students should really begin preparing for middle school during the month of January. Many of the local middle schools begin the application process at that time or a few weeks later. Parents, if you intend to have your child attend a middle school out of zone, you will need to complete a Hardship Out of Zone application by March 1st. Please take a moment to read and become familiar with the information below.
Sebastian Middle School’s ACCESS Program: The ACCESS (Academy of College and Career Educational Success at Sebastian) program was designed to set a college and career trajectory for our middle school students. Students in this program are enrolled in advanced coursework and are on track to take two or more high school courses at Sebastian Middle School before they begin high school. Currently, Sebastian Middle School offers high school credit courses in Mathematics, Spanish, Science, and Information Technology.
Sebastian Middle School’s AVID Program: Registration opens in February. The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program was designed to help prepare students for advanced coursework and success in a four- year university program. At Sebastian Middle School, students in the program are enrolled in advanced coursework and an AVID elective class to help provide academic support.
R.J. Murray Middle School Cambridge Program: Registration opens in February. R.J. Murray Middle School proudly offers the Cambridge Advanced Studies Program, an advanced middle school academic program sponsored by Cambridge University in England. An internationally recognized program for students in grades 6-8, The Cambridge Honors Program offers a rigorous and relevant curriculum. Academically talented students are encouraged to apply for entry at R.J. Murray Middle School.
R.J. Murray Middle School AVID Program: Registration opens in February. Advancement Via Individual Determination is a college readiness program that provides students access to one or more classes in our Cambridge Advanced Studies Program. AVID provides academic support during the day to help ensure success in the classroom. The AVID elective class is for the truly focused and motivated student.
R.J. Murray Middle School Center for the Arts: ‘Information Nights’ are usually held in late January and early February. Center for the Arts students receive advanced arts instruction in their choice of the following areas: Dance, Drama, Voice, Visual Arts, or Graphic Design. The program is available to any student currently registered in the St. Johns County School District.
